Actually the CTX is still a frequency domain detector. Yes, ML has squared up the normally sinusoidal waves (but they are still waves), and this detector uses multiple frequencies, but it still is frequency based. It discriminates as a FD  type detector, producing both Ferrous and conductivity target info. FD detectors are also commonly called VLF or Induction Balance detectors.

 

Time domain detectors do not have frequencies - that's because they have time delays that are the critical performance feature. .Time domain detectors are often called Pulse induction detectors.

I still think you are confused about the CTX 3030. The patent you refer to is an old one - and yes, Minelab PI detectors have had a form of discrimination for many years. It is also true that PI / Time Domain detectors use a squared pulse of energy. (meaning it goes very fast from zero to full voltage and then quickly from full to off at the end of the pulse). It is also true that Minelab PI detectors have had Multi-pulse sensing (MPS) as a feature for many years (to match the old patent you refer to). - But the brochures for their VLF / IB / FD detectors note that they have BBS, FBS or FBS2; and not MPS. The patent you refer to does not apply to the CTX 3030, but instead applies to the SD, GP and GPX series Pulse induction detectors.

The thing is that you can "square up" the normally sinusoidal wave pattern of a FD / IB system but that does not make it a time domain system.

 

Take a further look at the website above and if you are still really in doubt that the CTX 3030 is a VLF / IB / FD type detector, I can indeed get a clarification for you from Minelab.
