Portable Shelter Building Options For Remote Placer Mine

3 posts in this topic

We're researching options for a mining site in Alaska. There are no main roads so we'll be barging in all of our equipment - including the raw materials for buildings. We've been looking at some portable fabric buildings like these as well as the option of building standard structures with lumber. I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts one way or the other with these two types of buildings. Looking forward to getting out there and getting started.

Hi,

I've been in a few camps that used the portable fabric structures. They worked very well.

When Full Metals had a prospecting camp here they used the WeatherPort structures. I was impressed

how well they withstood the winter cold & snow without damage for years.

The only problem I saw was it is very easy for bears to rip open a side for access! This happened to their

cook structure.

If they can barge in you may want to consider a 20' or 40' connex.  Also a good way to get your supplies to the site.  Also nice to have a solid wall rather than a fabric wall in bear country.
