Yeah, It's a tough living, and many people aren't prepared for it. I laughed at watching an episode on tv of Gold Rush, where the little girl had gotten sick from a parasite in the dirinking water... turns out the drinking water is just ground run off that they weren't boiling or filtering!!! WOW, Talk about not being prepared. I read an ad once about a mining company looking for the "Get off the couch, and go do that" kind of guys, and frankly those are the guys who are going to not make it. Theres a whole lot of process from getting from A- Get off the Couch.... to B - Get gold.... that these guys just simply don't get or understand. You wouldn't go be a dentist and start pulling teeth and filling cavities without some sort of direction, same goes for mining and the lifestyle that goes with it.

It's understandable that most people would get discouraged, it takes a true passion to go out every day and search for buried treasure. There is alot more research and hard work than people realize. Most people think just because they bought the equipment, then they are entitled to go out and find something, when really it is not as simple if you don't know where and what to look for. I think that only 5% of the people who go for gold can make a living isnt because of the lack of gold, but because of the lack of determination and hard work that it takes to get it.

    Gold Drops Under $1500

I think as long as noone esle sells all their gold, well be ok, if that happens, we can all start lookin for silver... lol

    Alaska Rocks !

So, with higher numbers signifying a high magnetic anomalie and degrading with the lower the number... 0 being No anomalies? Then I would want to check area with higher numbers for material.. if this is what im understanding !

    Alaska Rocks !

Out of sheer curiousity...are you looking for geophysical anomalies that relate to gold, or other things or features? Geographic Anomalies are where the geography is different than what is expected, right?

    New Blm Fee's

I've got to say, that this is my first year being serious about gold, I have researched many hours and STILL am green... Claims are one thing I guess is going to take a while to understand the legal process, and just understanding on how to locate unclaimed lands or claims that have been dropped. I think many people who are looking for claims, actually have no clue where to look or even how to look. I used the mapper tool to the best of my understanding and after using several maps and legends I found land that i thought might have not been claimed. This is where I got stuck, because I was unsure on how to validate that these lands are available to claim. but I know claims are out there, I just feel there is no real in depth instructions on claiming lands, or I just havent looked hard enough.

Haha, Im, only 4 years behind you there, and thats what I was betting on, but unfortunately i dont think that hypothermia will feel the same about the gold as i do! lol

    Last Summer in Alaska

I met a couple a few weeks ago at the mining and diving store, they were dredging but at the time they said everything was so frozen still that really getting anything going was next to impossible. I guess where there is a will there is a way, and where theres gold, there will be a person figuring out how to extract it!

If You Were Dredging In Alaska, Where Would You Start?

Tracking the gold back to it's original source should be any miners plan, and with the constant movement of the tectonic plates, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and natural erosion, you would think that new opportunities to find new undiscovered lodes increase, even in places that may have already been explored. Wish I was a Geo Wiz... or at least know more about what I was talking about! lol

    Going Detecting All Summer Long!

Hey Steve, Have you ever considered an RV? I had planned on living in an RV all summer for my expedition. I also could assume your claims might not have road access... so I'm probably answering my own question.

    New To Dredging In Alaska

Definately considered just using my neoprene waders, from my experience in the streams in Alaska, your probably not going to be in that deep of water, but thats not to be said for all of the creeks and streams, I just want to make sure I'm as prepared as I can be for any Situation! I guess thats where I should be researching the grounds I'm going to be mining!
