Gemstone Geology

Recommended Posts

I admit I started as a pebble puppy in my youth 50+ years ago. Bright colorful shinies were rapidly scarfed up and deposited in my jeans pocket.

To this day, gemstones still get my attention. While prowling about on the net, I ran into this and although cataloged as Yukon Territory specific, turns out it is not.

The Chugach Gem and Mineral Society put out a book called, "Alaska ... A Guidebook for Rockhounds" aka X marks the spot. It is supposedly out of print but you might find a stray copy somewhere around Anchorage. You might try Nature's Jewels on Arctic Blvd. in Anchorage for more up to date info. Hopefully the CGMS will have a newer edition forthcoming.
