Geowizard 122 Report post Posted October 21, 2014 In the early part of the last century, two brothers, Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger introduced a new method of prospecting. They had discovered and made a business around the concept of Resistivity. Today, Schlumberger is a multi-billion dollar oil services business with offices all over the world. - Geowizard
Geowizard 122 Report post Posted October 23, 2014 Although point contact resistivity is still used everyday by companies prospecting for new sources of metals, another method has been showing more promise! - Geowizard
Geowizard 122 Report post Posted October 28, 2014 Everyone is familiar with metal detectors. Metal detectors operate on the principles of electromagnetism. Other threads on this forum have discussed how and why metal detectors work. - Geowizard
Geowizard 122 Report post Posted November 3, 2014 What we know; We already know that gold can be found in a placer. We know we can prospect for placer gold. The problem is that other prospectors also know the same thing! The problem is they have already looked at every accessable placer on earth. That's a fact. Many placers have been looked at, discoveries made and the placer gold has been mined to the fullest possible extent. We can go out and see how lucky we are. We can revisit those placers and hope that maybe those old miners missed something. Chances are those old miners were at least as smart as we are. They happened to be fortunate enough to precede us! They beat us to the gold! The only thing that stands between the average modern prospector and using the technology is learning what that new technology measures. - Geowizard
Geowizard 122 Report post Posted November 21, 2014 Resistivity and Rocks; Insulators like silicon (quartz) are a good example of a type of rock that has high resistivity. Electromagnetic metal detectors measure how well rocks conduct electricity. A gold nugget producers a large signal in a detector. - Geowizard
