chickenminer 42 Report post Posted September 7, 2015 Miners working a bench along the Fortymile river, just below the mouth of Smith creek, had to use a ditch and then a flume to carry the water from one side of the river to the other. I know that in California they built ditches that ran for many miles to deliver water under a hundred feet of head or more to the big hydraulic mines in the 1800s.
